Many different things can make someone feel suicidal; pre-existing mental health difficulties, life events and transitions, stress and anxiety, ill health or a combination of all of these things or none of them.
Regardless of what has caused the feelings and thoughts of suicide each person’s experience of this will be as unique as they are. Ultimately it is the individual’s choice if they would like to end their life.
If you are experiencing thoughts of harming yourself please consider whether you want to be dead or if you would like an end to the pain and suffering you are in. If it is the latter talking to someone can help you to see a way forward. Being listened to and really being heard and your pain being recognised in a non-judgemental manner can be healing.
If you are in distress, despair or feeling suicidal and need to speak to someone urgently please call Samaritans on 116 123.
